In Bethesda, a family had taken the bold step of buying a lot, hiring a local architect, and building their own home. Plagued with code issues and cost overruns, they were also having a very hard time communicating with their architect, and visualizing what, exactly, they were going to end up with.

After meeting with the family and reviewing their plans, I created a model of their space for discussion. We talked through a number of issues--spaces which were far too small for their intended purpose, poor flow, poorly placed windows and circulation paths, and more. Utilizing the model, they were better able to understand these issues before they were built, visualize and plan for materials, furniture, and color schemes, and alter their design with their contractor before the space was built. In the end, the space is far more comfortable and functional than the original design, and they're comfortable in their forever home.
